As the industry authority for resolving micro-machining issues with its line of machine and cutting tool innovations, Rainford Precision has two new lines of deep-hole micro-drills for processing holes from 0.3 to 1mm diameter.
The microscopic new drilling lines are manufactured from a high density micro-grain solid carbide that provides remarkable rigidity. This rigidity and innovative edge geometry enables the new ranges to effectively drill holes at 25XD, 30XD, 33XD and 50XD. The ADL and ADLL series are ideal for drilling holes in soft ferrous and non-ferrous materials and have been used in sliding head turning centres for the precision machining of plastic components for the electronics and connector industries.
The drills are available in diameters from 0.30mm to 1mm in 0.05mm increments with a flute length from 10 to 50mm. Offered with an overall length from 60 to 110mm, the new ADL and ADLL series demonstrate remarkable performance characteristics with their high helix 30 degree flute.
To retain edge sharpness, consistency and drilling performance the drills are uncoated. For tools in the realms of the micron, this actually prolongs tool life and performance as small tools with sharp edge geometries are renowned for edge wear and chipping that is a consequence of applying a coating to a sharp edge. Coating small diameter tools also limits the sharpness of the edge and ultimately the performance of small diameter tools for the materials intended.
Furthermore, the new drill range retains its performance characteristics and rigidity by excluding through coolant holes.
